Logo Design, Creating Your Brief.

If you’re thinking about hiring a designer to create your new company image, or update a look that you currently have. You may find it useful to consider the following points, all of which will help you receive the best from your designer, and reach a logo that your happy with a lot quicker than diving in without thinking things through first.

Think of your audience, what impression do you want them to be left with? What do you want your company image to be (in words)?

Is there something in particular that you need your logo to include graphically, a tree? a car?… You get the gist.

It may be useful to have a look around and pick up on designs and styles that you like, it may be far easier to point your designer to an image, rather than trying to explain the look you’re after in words.

Do you have company colours, corporate guidelines or even just personal preferences that need to be adhered to? It’s important that your designer is aware of these points from the start of the design process.

Unique selling point… what’s yours? If you’re not already aware of it, then it might be worth having a think about what sets you apart from your competitors, it may provide the perfect angle for your designer to take in creating that unique look and portray your business as a cut above the rest.

Ideally you will communicate directly with your designer on a one to one basis and all of the above with be conveyed without a hitch. For those choosing to work with an agency or through a middle man (or men!) it’s a good idea to get it all written down so that it can be passed to the designer, then if all else fails, at least they have the basis of your brief, without the joys of Chinese whisper and someone else’s take on your needs.
